But despite the fact that our liabilities to public employees could bankrupt the State, the Unions do not wish to change course. How blind and self-destructive can they be? Did they learn nothing from what happened to the auto industry just recently? Where can they even possibly think the money is going to come from?
Unions initially stood for the protection of worker’s rights, what rights are protected if you bankrupt the State they live in and the cities that employ them? Thousands are already being fired due to the overly generous benefits that are currently in place. Would it be better to have more people employed receiving less benefits instead of offering better benefits to fewer people paving our roads and teaching our kids? I’m sorry, but few of us are willing to bankrupt ourselves for a worthy cause, so why is the State doing it and how can the Unions be so self-centered as to request city officials not to consider making one of the tougher, but most effective decisions to curb their deficits.
Perhaps Union Officials Reps need to fully understand the budgets of the organizations they work for and when making demands they need to explicitly identify where the additional revenue will come from to fund their demands? Are they asking for higher taxes or to cut someone else’s program? Let's think long-term, stop putting our hand out and be part of the solution and not the destruction of this great State. |
