Tis' the Season for Credit Card Ripoffs!!!

Tis’ the season for credit card scammers. We usually hear about the calls from scammers pretending to be from your card company, then came the phishing emails and now come the text messages. Both my wife and I received text messages yesterday claiming to be from Visa’s Customer Service telling us that our credit cards had been frozen and that we needed to call 313-843-9546 to address the issue.

First, it was not an 800 or 866 number and no mention of the bank. Was it a Capital One Visa or Chase? Obvious scam! Then today I must have been too busy, because I must have missed the merger between Visa and American Express. Otherwise, what could explain my wife and I receiving a new text message from American Express using the same Visa phone number to tell us that our credit cards were frozen? I didn’t even know I had an American Express Card?

Anyway, watch out. Never call the phone number on an email or text message. I don’t even talk to someone when they call me and claim to be from my credit card company. I simply tell them I will call them right back and dial the number on the back of my card.

Happy shopping & don’t get taken in
