Where's my Global Warming?

Woke up this morning to the site of frost on my lawn and plants.  It was sooooo cold. I then had to hose down my wife’s car before she went to work since the windshield had layer of hard ice over it. As I was doing one side of the car, she got inside and decided she would help me by turning on the windshield wipers which cast a good amount of nearly frozen water on my face. That woke me up!

With my darling little wife off to work, I turned my attention to the front yard. Many of plants were shriveled or burnt to a crisp overnight. My inpatients were all droopy as were my calla lilies and a few other assorted plants looked like someone had aimed a flame thrower at them. Winter is here!

As I drove the kids to school, I started seeing the signs of those folks that plan ahead. Plants in various yards were covered with bed sheets or plastic to prevent frost damage.  I guess it’s the season for cyclamens, primroses pansies and time to think about plating bulbs. Come spring though, I’ll be out there again planting inpatients.

Some of you might have read my story about rats invading my pond, since then I keep some live traps around the pond area. This afternoon, as I do everyday, I went to check the traps and there was a rat frozen solid in the thing! I know how that rat felt.

I guess in the end, the holidays feel more natural when there is a chill wind in the air and some frost nipping at our noses.

Happy Holidays everyone!
