Home Prices Continue to be Stable,
but Inventory High for County, not so for City!
Mt Carmel Redwood City
While prices appear relatively stable in San Mateo County, inventories have never been higher. Obviously the market has not been able to absorb the extra inventory and this could put pressure on prices if this same pattern continues. Redwood City appears to be doing better overal!

Parks like Pulgas Open Space, which welcomes dogs, are busy no matter what the weather. In fact, the outdoors, both woods and town, seems subject to a new paradigm. The canines are getting (dragging?) their owners, female and male, out and about. Perhaps the combined media and medical emphasis on exercise has helped, but it’s the dogs we see leading the way.

Dark Skies over Redwood City
on the 4th of July

While we will still have our Fourth of July parade this year, Redwood City will not have a fireworks show.  With all the budget cuts and layoffs that the city recently endured, spending over $50,000 for a half hour extravaganza in the night sky just seems like a luxury that we just can’t afford for the moment.

While I will miss the fireworks, I believe this is the right decisions for the City Council to make. I think it’s appropriate for us not spend the extra money on Independence Day. Independence means being responsible for yourself and having to make tough decisions today to assure your own long-term prosperity. Being responsible this year will mean a little less pizzazz in the night sky for Redwood City.

Redwood City Considering Laying off 41 Employees,
How much do we pay the Police?
My math tells me the average police pay would need to be $147K/year to get the $2.2M savings. But many of these positions are suppose to be paid well below $100K? Either we have been way overpaying some of these positions or there is a mistake in the savings?

Jeff Ira and some Observations

Redwood City is in some trouble, in the next 4 years, some $10-14M of expenditures need to be cut from the city budget. Currently 81% of the budget is paid out to salaries, this of course will mean less folks to provide us the services we depend on.

Why do Red-Light Cameras Give me the Creeps?

I hate it when I’m at a stoplight and my light turns green, but cars continue to speed by leaving no doubt that the last stragglers ran a red-light. As much as I would love for there to be a cop nearby to write them a ticket, I have an aversion to a camera catching them in the act and snapping a picture.

Why can't we Cane Car Thieves?

Yesterday my usual routine was interrupted. I walked to my car in the morning to take my kids to school and it was immediately evident, someone had beaten me to the punch. Sometime overnight someone was in my car – damn!
